Our commercial gas testing, purging & decommissioning process

Ormond Pipework Services Ltd are among the UK’s leading specialists in the following services:

Nitrogen purging

Nitrogen purging is the process used to displace natural gas from the system. It involves introducing nitrogen at a suitable pressure and flow rate to decrease the concentration of flammable substances to safe levels. This can be done in different ways including displacement purging (direct purging) or dilution purging (indirect purging). The method chosen will depend on various factors, including the nature of the system and the substances involved.

Gas tightness testing

Also known as a gas leak or pressure drop test, this is a crucial procedure to ensure that gas installations and systems are safe and leak-free. The test is designed to verify the integrity of the gas system, that is, to make sure it is 'gas tight' and not leaking gas into the environment. This is critical not only for safety reasons, preventing gas leaks that could lead to explosions or fire, but also for efficiency and environmental reasons, minimising gas wastage and reducing emissions.

Gas decommissioning

Where a gas installation is being taken out of service or replaced we will purge the system. Confirming there is no gas within the pipework, we then disconnect supply lines and dismantle other infrastructure. Upon completing an indirect purge, Ormond Pipework will issue a Gas Safe certificate signalling the installation is safe and officially decommissioned.
