Hot Tapping: Wavin Ltd
HOT TAPPING CASE STUDY
Wavin Ltd, Doncaster
Client: Bailey Johns Ltd, on behalf of Wavin Ltd
About: Bailey Johns are specialist gas service engineers who work with Wavin Ltd, a global leader in manufacturing of plastic pipe.
The problem:
Wavin required new sub meters in their existing gas installation. In order to fit the new meters, hot works had to be performed on the gas pipework.
An indirect gas purge was required to safely complete the task. However, there were no suitable purge points on the existing gas installation.
Bailey Johns Ltd called in Ormond Pipework Services, their regular
hot tapping sub-contractors. We used under pressure drilling to insert a new purge point.
Our solution:
We first removed paint off the existing pipework to gain an accurate ultrasonic thickness reading and clean weld.
A prefabricated branch was then welded in the ideal location for a purge point.
After a successful pressure test of 2 bar, we hot tapped the existing gas pipework and completed the purge point.
Specialisms involved:
- Ultrasonic thickness test
- Welding
- Pressure test
- Under
pressure
drilling (hot tapping)
Client testimony:
“We have a close working partnership with Ormond, they are top standard for gas pipework installations and hot tapping.”
