Hot Tapping: Barnsley Hospital
HOT TAPPING CASE STUDY
Barnsley Hospital
Client: South Yorkshire Mechanical, on behalf of Barnsley Hospital.
The problem:
Barnsley hospital required a new branch from their existing cold mains to supply a new tap for the cleaning staff.
However, it was important for the cold water to remain live as the supply was consistently in use.
Therefore, Ormond Pipework were contracted in by principal contractor, South Yorkshire Mechanical, to under-pressure drill the 54mm copper main.
Hot tapping the mains water avoided any draining off and filling back up which saved on time and cost.
Our solution:
Due to the installation being copper, welding a saddle on was not an option.
Therefore, Ormond sourced a brass tapping clamp and appropriate fittings to uphold the safety standards of potable water.
Once the clamp and valve were successfully installed and pressure tested, we began to under pressure drill the live cold water main.
After the hot tapping was complete, Ormond attached a safety plug to prevent leaving an open end.
Tasks involved:
- Potable water installation
- Pressure test
- Hot tapping/Under pressure drilling
Client testimony:
"We have built a relationship with Ormond's hot tapping services for over 20 years, and will continue to do so.”
