Hot Tapping Case Study: Portsmouth Hospital

HOT TAPPING CASE STUDY

Vinci, on behalf of Portsmouth Hospital

About: Vinci are a global leader in construction services trust and trust Ormond Pipework for our expertise in Hot Tapping.

The problem:

Portsmouth Hospital were in the process of building a new ward.

To supply the new budling, they required two 4” connections off their existing 6” cold water main.

As leading hot tapping contractors, Ormond Pipework Services Ltd, were brought in to under pressure drill the live water mains.

Hot tapping the new connections saved on time and cost as it avoided draining off the entire system.

Under pressure drilling also allowed the supply of water to remain in use for the rest of the hospital.

Our solution:

Special hot tapping clamps were installed to form the new branches, due to the 6” main being cast iron and therefore not weldable.

After successfully pressure testing the new connection, Ormond attached the under pressure drill and began hot tapping the live water main.

Once the hot tapping was complete, Ormond attached safety blanks to prevent leaving open ends.
