Commercial Gas Installation: Naylors
GAS INSTALLATION CASE STUDY
Naylors: Manufacturing plant, Barnsley

Client: Naylors, Barnsley
About: Long-established British manufacturer of drainage products for the construction and retail industry, Barnsley based Naylors is a trusted client of Ormond Pipework Services.
The problem:
Alterations to our client’s factory deemed an existing gas main to be decommissioned for demolition. In addition, a new
gas installation up to 200 meters of 6-inch mild steel pipe was required to supply a Kiln.
Our solution:
As an experienced Gas Safe registered company, Ormond used nitrogen gas to purge out the existing main. Our gas engineers then provided a decommission certificate, confirming to the demolition team it was safe to remove the old gas pipework.
Hot tapping onto a 10-inch main was used to connect the new 6-inch gas installation to the Kiln. Hot tapping avoided any system downtime and reduced costs because gas to the rest of site could remain live.
Once the general gas pipework was complete, a gas tightness test was performed. After a successful test, we did a direct purge of the new gas installation and produced a Gas Safe certificate.
Procedures involved:
- Hot tapping
- Welding
- Indirect gas purging using nitrogen
- Direct gas purging
- Gas testing
- Gas pipework installation
