Gas Purging: Great Bear Distribution
GAS PURGING CASE STUDY
Great Bear Distribution, Lutterworth

Client: Great Bear Distribution, Logistics operator, Lutterworth
About: Great Bear is a leading UK logistics business providing nationwide warehousing and distribution solutions for international blue-chip customers.
The problem:
Our client required alterations to their roof which involved removing eight gas fuelled air handling units (AHU).
The gas supplying the AHUs had to be purged and pipework decommissioned in order to complete the roof works.
Our solution:
After surveying the site, Ormond performed an indirect purge of the entire
gas installation. Using nitrogen to evacuate the gas made it safe for other contractors to cut and use hot works on the AHU pipework.
The gas installation also supplied two plant rooms which were still in use. Therefore, we split the pipework and welded a flange in position so a blank with a purge point could be attached.
Once the manual works were complete, Ormond did a gas tightness test and direct purge. Gas Safe Certificates were then issued to our client, confirming a successful job.
Specialisms involved:
